MUSHROOM GROWING
Eric Woods August, Saturday 4 2018 1pm-4pm $45/person Limited to 15 participants Mushrooms are a wondrous and integral part of healthy ecosystems and allow the rest of our world to support life. Mushrooms take the organic waste that these ecosystems produce and help to turn it back into beautiful living soil. Mushrooms are an easy and neat way to create your own alternative protein source anywhere in your home or on your property. This class will include a brief introduction to the biology of mushrooms as well as practical methods on growing your own mushrooms anywhere. The fee for this class also includes a bucket of inoculated straw that you can take home and grow your own mushrooms in! Eric is a site farmer at Growing Places Indy and is participating in a SARE grant to add a mushroom operation to this non-profit farm's portfolio. He was introduced to mushroom cultivation by Mark Jones of Sharondale Farms, an organic mushroom farm in Virginia. He has been working with Growing Places for a little under two years and is also cultivating his own property into a production-oriented vegetable and mushroom operation. He is an Indianapolis native and hopes to continue to cultivate the community around him into a place where healthy food is a key component to every human's life. |
